Event Description

" Begun in 2000, Pekin Underground is a  journey to the core of the Beijing art scene, which gradually moved from the realm of underground culture to the mainstream. I am very interested in the discovery of a rapidly changing China. Numerous trips made between 2001 and 2006 have allowed me to discover the real alternative art scene that existed in other times and other places. Its protagonists - artists, rock musicians, writers, techies, Lolitas, bar girls, students, and young migrants – have invented their own ways of life. I found anenergy close to what I experienced with the punk movement in the late 1970s in Europe and Andy Warhol’s Factory in New York. Just a few years later, China has become the second world power and interest in its culture has expanded. After Barcelona, Berlin, London, and New York, . Beijing has become the new cultural El Dorado. Today the Chinese capital is a significant platform for production and endless artistic and creative possibilities."
