Blackwater is an international band based in Beijing, China, playing irish music. Along with the Ireland-born singer Desmond McGarry (Canada), Daniel Brustman (USA) conducts rhythm on guitar, Zoe Wang (China) plays the accordion with virtuosity, and Nico Torrese (France) brings the irish sounds of banjo and mandolin.
Their music draws from the rich traditional irish repertoire (The Limerick Rake, The Foggy Dew, Wild Rover, I’ll Tell Me Ma, Spancill Hill, John Ryan’s Polka…. And much more). From beautiful ballads to frenzied reels, Blackwater is probably the most authentic irish music band one can listen to in Beijing.

is no name quartet group’s the first album, The group’s repertoire is centered around the music of Django Reinhardt and the gypsy jazz he pioneered in 1930’s Paris as well as (slightly) more modern French and American standards.

No Name Quartet :

Guitar: Daniel Brustman(USA)

Guitar: Nico Torrese(France)

Accordion: Zoe Wang(China )

Double Bass: Sebastian Meyer(Germany)

Nico Torrese and Daniel Brustman met six years ago in Beijing, China. They developed a unique style of playing gypsy jazz arranged for two guitars — the rhythm guitar plays bass lines on the 5th and 6th strings, a technique derived from American bluegrass music, thus allowing them to perform without a bassist. Initially focusing on the music of gypsy legend Django Reinhardt, they gradually expanded their repertoire to include American jazz standards, blues and 1960’s French pop.

Zoe Wang has played the accordion since she was four years old. She graduated from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music. Afterwards, she has periodically studied in France under the acclaimed accordionist Frédéric Deschamps. She began playing with Torrese and Brustman in 2007.

Sebastian Meyer in Frankfurt, Germany Jazz Academy graduate, majoring in jazz and popular music. He has more than compose music for film and TV, also participates in many jazz, opera and television music recordings. In April 2009 he joined the No Name band, adding many new musical elements.
