【2014 JUE | Talks】-Shangrila Farms Presents: Urban Beekeeping
As the machinations of China's booming industries continue to ravish the environment and dull our cities, counter-movements to bring the Earth and sustainable living practices into the home have blossomed. Shangrila Farms - within one of our favourite venues provided by Re-Up - will be offering an exciting talk on what they call Urban Beekeeping. That's right - bees in the city. Participants will firstly learn how to differentiate between bees-knees honey products and nasties. Then the hosts will talk through the nuts and bolts of setting up an urban beehive. Q&As will follow.
March 9th, afternoon (TBC)
What is JUE?JUE | Music + Art《觉》音乐＋艺术节 is an annual urban festival that embraces the whole of Beijing and Shanghai. Celebrating its 6th year in 2014, JUE is all about showcasing the best of the local creative communities in these two great cities, as well as inviting artists from around the world to share their talent with China. We’re all about community, doing everything we can to set an intimate vibe, and to carefully weave every one of our artists and events into a multidisciplinary masterpiece.

Meeting Point: Outside the Hilton Beijing
Escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Beijing and escape with us to Huairou District in northeastern Beijing. A mere 95km drive from downtown concrete Beijing takes us to the White River (Bai He) area with lush forests, clean air, and pure water. Come and swap the black asphalt for an area with 75% green vegetation cover. The area is popular for all sorts of outdoors sports including rock climbing, hiking and rafting. We will be doing the latter so prepare your Popeye and Olive Oil persona as we “row, row row the boat gently down the stream” for a 8km stretch that includes both quiet and rush moments. We will not be doing anything too demanding, if my computer shape body can do it so can you, but even so this trip is not suitable for pregnant women (or even pregnant men).
This FCGroup daytrip is not yet on the tourist map and (like all FCGroup trips) is suitable for both foreigners and even the most local of local Chinese. This time the trip will conclude with what Lucy (Achinatours) has promised to be a magnificent local feast to reward those who dared to move out of the safety of downtown Beijing.
Adoptaman in partnership with Study Abroad China is proposing a trip back to Chinese Roots and Ancient Culture. The trip will take place in Langzhong city, Sichuan Province, China. We choosed this City because it's a part of China's famous 4 ancient cities, it has over a 2300 years history, the streets & buildings was maintained and still features the ancient characteristics as it was during the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties.
