I have been working with Business Intelligence for about 10 years, but have now partly moved away from this area. I have no doubt that this area will grow in size and importance. The volume of data has increased by several 100% each year, and companies can not go on gut feeling anymore. There is no way that we can understand the amount of data without Business Intelligence. If you really are interested in this area you should look into predictive analytics. That is where many of the really interesting services are being developed.

And you are right. Many of these jobs does not require a background in computer science, but many do require a strong background in math.
