Jue Festival: Shanren

Shanren fuse Yunnan/Guizhou indigenous music with various modern styles to produce a fresh sound as accessible as it is unique. They aim to promote and preserve the combined and diverse heritage of Yunnan and Guizhou’s many ethnic minority groups through their own original compositions and re-workings of local folk melodies.

Sohojazz @ V.A. Bar

Sohojazz is a classic jazz group playing a mixture of standard and modern jazz standards. A band featuring members from America, Britain, Russia and Australia. Vocals: Vika (Russia), Bass: Nick (Australia), Drums: Adam (U.S.A.) Keys: Joe (England)

Bohai or Bust Charity Event @ The Hutong

Biking competitions, discussions and socializing. Proceeds from this Kick-Off Event will benefit Smarter Than Car’s upcoming research project on the history of Beijing’s bicycle culture to be presented at the World Congress of Architects. STC,, is a local non-profit organization that seeks to promote cycling in Beijing as a better means of urban transportation.

Jue Festival: Besnard Lakes

Formed in 2003 by the husband-and-wife team Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, Montreal indie rockers The Besnard Lakes have shown that they are masters of finely-honed experimental pop songs. Rounded out by bandmates Kevin Laing on drums and Richard White on guitar, TBL have released three albums to date, two of which have been nominated for Canada’s much-coveted Polaris Prize.
